The conversion

US gallons aren't UK gallons.

A cubic foot is a cubic foot worldwide — that part is universal. But "gallon" means different things on either side of the Atlantic:

  • US gallon = 3.785 liters = 231 cubic inches
  • UK (imperial) gallon = 4.546 liters ≈ 277 cubic inches

The UK gallon is about 20% larger than the US gallon. This is one of those unit-conversion gotchas that's responsible for a lot of pool-chemistry mistakes and recipe confusion. If you don't know which gallon, look at the source — UK pool guides and old British plumbing specs use imperial; everything else in the US is American gallons.

For shipping: cubic feet is the standard for US freight; in international freight you'll see CBM (cubic meters) instead. See our CBM calculator for international shipping.
